Your Dream holiday in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” has a lot to offer-strewn with cultural jewels and natural treasures. Its impressive landscapes host lush tropical forests, expansive dazzling lakes and magnificent mountain ranges. All this is scattered with captivating temples and ancient monuments, yet it remains largely untrodden by the typical tourist.

Day 1

Welcome to Sri Lanka! The land like no other!

In keeping with Sri Lankan tradition, all of us here at Andreen Travels would like to extend to you our heartiest “Ayubowan!” (Traditional Sri Lankan greeting wishing long life to the other).
On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be met by our representative from Andreen Travels & transferred to your hotel in Mirrissa.

En route, enjoy a Turtle Hatchery visit in Kosgoda and Madu River Boat Safari.

Of the eight varieties of turtle known to exist, Sri Lanka has five and all are endangered. They are the Leathery Turtle; the Clove-Backed Ridley Turtle. The Loggerhead Turtle, the Hawksbill Turtle and the Green Turtle. Although it is illegal to do so, turtles are still captured and their flesh sold in the markets, as are their eggs. The Hawksbill is slaughtered for its beautifully patterned shell. To help save the turtle, hatcheries have sprung up along the West Coast, particularly between Bentota and Kosgoda.

Madu River Boat Safari

The river, which flows across Balapitiya is one of the rarely visited and unspoiled attractions any nature lover can find in Sri Lanka. She boasts of having a cluster of 64 small islands scattered along her path and the most of which are uninhabited and covered with mangroves. A boat trip is a wonderful way of seeing some of the hundreds of species of plants and animals – monkeys eat fruit in the trees, a water monitor lizard glides slowly through the water, and cormorants, egrets and kingfishers wait patiently on the banks, eyeing the water for prey. You can visit an island with a Buddhist monastery, where the friendly young monks will show you a 150-year-old book made of palm leaves and how they cook on cinnamon wood on an open fire. The fish spa is a truly “exfoliating” experience!

The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the ‘Bridge in the Sky’ was constructed by connecting two bog mountains when constructing the Badulla – Colombo railway. This bridge is 300 feet in length, 25 feet in width and 80-100 feet in height. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The Bridge can be reached by travelling 2km on Gotuwala road starting from Halpe Textile centre in Badulla Bandarawela road. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase in tourism due to the bridge’s architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides.
